Product Review (submitted on March 1, 2016):
* I received an ARC through Love Bytes/Same Sex Romance Reviews for a fair and honest review.
Colin Baker had a major crush on Jordan Hargrove when they were both in high school and on the baseball team together. Unfortunately Jordan was a major dick back then, he couldn’t come out in teens when he wanted to as his parents were getting a divorce. They told him it was because he was just too much, he was diagnosed with ADD in his early teens and as it took a while before the doctors got his meds sorted out he went off the rails with his bad behaviour. Poor Colin copped the brunt of Jordan’s attitude because Jordan just couldn’t tell anyone he had just as much of a crush on Colin as Colin did him!
Colin moved back to Cedarwood with his young son Gage after his breakup with his ex. Colin and his brother Farin own the local book store, as they also live together in their duplex, if Colin is busy Farin can look after Gage for him. What Colin didn’t count on was the rampant homophobia in such a small town, since he’s been back he has had bags of dog poo set on fire on his front porch and now his son is being harassed at school. As luck would have it he was taking his boy to school and not paying attention when he sees red and blue lights in his rear-view mirror! And who should the officer be? Jordan Hargrove had to be the absolute last person Colin wanted to see, not just now but ever!
Jordan can’t believe who he’s writing a speeding ticket for Colin Baker, his school crush. Unfortunately Jordan still hasn’t come out he publicly dates women and privately sleeps with men. He wants to come out but he’s got no-one to come out for. He now has the chance to get to know Colin as adults, he can’t apologise enough for being a douche in high school and is grateful to Colin for his understanding when he explains what was going on within his family at that time. They start dating both with Gage and without but they do it out of town Jordan just can’t quite take that final step out.
Until the time comes when he has had enough, things have gotten out of control with the hate group, they broke into Colin’s garage slashed his tyres and defaced the paintwork! Luckily everyone sort of knew and it didn’t have much impact! The police chief decides he wants Jordan and Colin to be the face of the LGBTQ community with the full support of the police department. It’s very uplifting to read about positive results coming from so much negativity. The only thing I would say I’m disappointed with is that the story ended when Colin and Jordan became a couple. I hope we find out more about what happens with them in Farin’s book! I will definitely be recommending Home to Cedarwood as a positive m/m romance, love story!!
